REMOTE ONLINE NOTARY (RON)
On June 7, 2019, HB 409 “Electronic Legal Documents” was signed into laws Chapter 2019-71 and took effect on January 1, 2020, in addition with 1N-7001, Florida Administrative Code. This law authorizes Florida notaries to perform online remote notarizations after the completion of an application and training requirements. According to the law, any commissioned notary in Florida can apply to become an online notary and to perform an online notarization regardless of the physical location of the principal, provided the notary is physically located in Florida while performing the notarization. Witnesses may be physically present with the principal or by means of audio-video communication technology in conformity with Florida law. Remote Online Notaries must take certain steps to ensure the security of the notarization, including the use of audio-video technology to verify the identity of the principal. Additionally, the entire audio-visual conference session must be recorded and electronic journal shall be maintained for at least 10 years after the date of the notarial act.
Requirements to Become Remote Florida Notary:
•You must be an existing notary public.•Complete a two hours Remote Online Notary education training and receive a certificate of completion.
•Obtain a $25,000 Notary Bond.
•Obtain a $25,000 Errors and Omissions insurance policy.
•Choose a RON service provider for audio-video communication and identity proofing in compliance with Chapter 2019-71 and 1N-7001, Florida Administrative Code.
•Fill out the Registration Form and have it notarized prior to submission.
